Pride Month is dedicated to commemorating and continuing the legacy of the Stonewall Uprising that took place in Manhattan in 1969. The riots, sparked by a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village, became a symbolic call to arms for the LGBTQ+ community. This act of defiance against systemic oppression and violence catalyzed the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.
Pride Month is more than just a celebration; it is a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle against discrimination and the work still required to achieve true inclusivity and justice. It serves as an opportunity to reflect on the progress made through the bravery and sacrifices of those who have fought for their rights and the rights of others.
